Introduction

Availability: Can be attempted any number of times (formerly reported to be once every reboot)

The Tavern of the Boars Challenge pits you against 5 monsters which are selected based on your current class level. Johnny the Arena Master will keep track of what phases you have done (first, second, third, fourth and finally archon). From Before the Tavern, go N, N, N, W, N. Sayto Johnny "challenge" to start the challenge.

Note: In the room where the challenge mobs pop out, you can summon elementals, shadow golems, shadow imps to make it much easier. Although I would advise to form unform yourself before the last mob dies as it might bug out if you're not the one landing the killing blow on the very last mob.

First Class Challenge Mobs

Upon completion of all 5 mobs - The orb situated on the roof shines a bright white! You gain 6 practices!

Note that this had seemed impossible for an ogre bard (having almost 1000 hp - the 4th mob's mental damage was a big problem) on the first 3 attempts. On the fourth attempt, in addition to having AR-boosting buffs applied by a higher-level friend, what made this very doable was having the summon elemental item from Rune, damaging wands, and a big stack of healing potions.

4703 9-29-2013 Esker Adjusted the difficulty of the Tavern of the Boars challenge for first classers and made it scale better from the 3rd trial onwards.

A huge hairy yeti is immune to cold.
A huge hairy yeti is affected by level 380 'detect illusion'.
A huge hairy yeti is immune to charm.

A huge hairy yeti is affected by level 380 'sense life'.
A huge hairy yeti is immune to light.
A huge hairy yeti is a level 380 yeti.

A few practices for completing the challenge. For completing all the challenges you get...

'Ah, you have all the tokens.' Johnny the Arena Master says to you. 'I'm sure Maar will be glad for a feast today.'

Teleports you to a NPK room with Maar the Elder Dragon.

Maar is really simple. Does flames damage but doesn't do anything aside from 3 attacks (doesn't have haste). Immune to bash, plague and poison, he just has alot of hp.

You sense the following:
Maar the Elder Dragon has a saving against Magic Orbs, Staves, and Wands modifier of 5.
Maar the Elder Dragon is resistant to magic.
Maar the Elder Dragon is affected by an unknown high-level spell.
Maar the Elder Dragon is immune to bash.
Maar the Elder Dragon is immune to charm.
Maar the Elder Dragon is affected by level 350 'fireshield'.
Maar the Elder Dragon has a Saving against Paralysis (i.e., Sleep, Web, Slow, etc.) modifier of 5.
Maar the Elder Dragon is affected by level 350 'levitation'.
Maar the Elder Dragon is affected by an unknown high-level spell.
Killing him you get:

Item 'a dragon's talon' is type artifact, alignment 100, made of bone,

This is a large talon from the elder dragon, Maar.  It has been broken
off almost at the base of the claw and is still very sharp.  Legend has it
that the talon of a dragon, when taken by the slayer of the beast, can be
used to refresh magical energies if used by someone with the knowledge of
such things.
