When an approximate RU / Gold value is calculated at approximately 120,000 gold per 1 RU, it is cheaper to purchase a ship using Reward Units than it is to purchase one with gold.
For example, a new Super Dreadnought is valued at 32,000,000 gp, but at ~120,000 RU x 210 RU, the gold total is 25,200,000 gp.

Purchasing a New Ship
Your new Super Dreadnought will cost 20,040,000 gp total to fully upgrade, on top of the base cost of the ship. In order for you to obtain maximum profit potentials, and survive hairy situations, it is highly recommended to purchase all ammunition, hull, shielding, and on-board sextant at a bare minimum. Subsequent upgrades should include the velocity booster, wind deflector, an extra fuel tank, beacon and flag. The vorpal shielding, admantite hull armor, spectral shielding and fuel tank are only sold at the Decara shipwright.
Breakdown of upgrade costs: Ammunition Basic Cannonballs - 10 x 30,000 = 300,000 Medium Cannonballs - 10 x 55,000 = 550,000 Heavy Cannonballs - 6 x 90,000 = 540,000 Light Ballista - 4 x 200,000 = 800,000 Heavy Ballista - 4 x 350,000 = 1,400,000 Fire launcher - 2 x 550,000 = 1,100,000 Harpoon - 2 x 350,000 = 700,000
