Fear

Having the Mark of Fear will prevent you from gaining the Mark of Courage.
Having the Mark of Fear will allow you to also gain the Mark of Chaos and Mark of Fnord. These in turn give access to a witch class shadow golem scripted Grimoirium Magica.

Courage

Having the Mark of Courage will prevent you from gaining the Mark of Fear.
Having the Mark of Courage will prevent you from gaining the Mark of Sanctuary.
Combined with Mark of Wisdom allows you to progress all the way to The Laocoon.
